The Uttarakhand High Court has ruled that trial courts cannot limit charge framing to Section 420 IPC when evidence reveals a pattern of forgery in public documents. MP High Court quashed FIR for forgery offences under Sections 467 and 468 IPC after the accused was acquitted of Section 420 IPC via compromise, ruling that mere discrepancies in receipt amounts do not constitute document forgery. The court emphasized that without evidence of forged documents, continuation of proceedings would amount to abuse of process.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that for framing charges under IPC Sections 467 and 468, only prima facie evidence of preparation of forged documents is required, not proof of their actual use. This clarifies the threshold for prosecuting forgery cases, easing the burden on complainants at the charge-framing stage.
