Allahabad HC ruled substantive appointment date under the U.P. Intermediate Education Act, 1921 determines seniority for service benefits, overriding ad hoc or regularized appointments. The Division Bench restored a 2017 order, directing consequential benefits within 15 days for the appellant appointed in 1996.

Allahabad HC holds that compassionate appointment is a one-time relief under constitutional exceptions (Articles 14 & 16).
